Enrollment is Still Open for the Fall
The 2024-2025 school year is off to a great start at JPII, with over 400 students enrolled and excited for the year ahead. If you know anyone interested in joining JPII’s vibrant school community, please encourage them to contact Admissions Director, Michael Wahle at mwahle@jpiihyannis.org to discuss enrollment.

Join us In Worship. All are Welcome
Mass will be celebrated on Monday & Wednesday at 7:30 AM in the Our Lady of Fatima Chapel at the High School and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will take place on Tuesday during XBlock.

Congratulations to the Cast of Godspell
Rehearsals begin this week, with a small group rehearsal on Monday in the auditorium and an all-cast read-through on Tuesday from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at the high school in Room 313.  Full rehearsal schedules for September will be available on Tuesday at the read through. Mini Class Night on September 26
Thursday, September 26 is a great opportunity to meet your student’s teachers and follow their schedule. You will hear about course content and class expectations, and provide general grading guidelines. See details for each building below.

Parent Partnership Council
The JPII Parent Partnership Council is a new committee designed for parents, guardians and grandparents who want to become more involved in supporting their school. This council aims to build a sense of community among JPII families in grades 5-12 while specifically focusing on supporting athletics, the arts and extracurricular programs. This partnership will work closely with school leadership to bring ideas to life and make a meaningful impact on the school community. Join us for the first meeting on September 18 at 8:15 A.M. in the ARC. Please RSVP here.

Game of the Week-Women’s Soccer on Thursday, September 19 at 4:00 
Thank you to all that attended the JPII Football game on Saturday! Each week we will feature a different Fall sport.  This week we will be highlighting our women’s soccer team. If you can only attend one game this week, make it September 19  at 4:00 to see the women’s soccer team take on Nantucket at the Sandwich Water District (146 Farmersville Rd., Sandwich)

School Store Volunteers Needed
The school store is still looking for volunteers for the 2024-2025 school year.  The store is open from 2:30-3:30 P.M. throughout the week.  Parents from any grade level are welcome to volunteer. GRADES 5 – 8 INFORMATION

Meet the Faculty – Mini Class Night Grades 5-8, September 26, 5:30 P.M.- 7:00 P.M.
Parents and guardians of students are invited to Mini Class Night on September 26 at 5:30 P.M. The evening begins with an assembly in Monsignor Thomson Hall. Ms. Paula Daly, Assistant Head of School, will introduce the faculty followed by a brief presentation from the Head of School, Mr. John Redding, and the Advancement team. After the assembly, parents/guardians will attend classes according to their children’s Day 1 schedule.

Teachers will introduce themselves, explain their course content and class expectations, and provide general grading guidelines. Each “class” will be about seven minutes in length. Following the classroom visits, parents/guardians and teachers are invited back to Monsignor Thomson Hall for light refreshments sponsored by our Home and School Association.

Activities During XBlock
There are so many great clubs and activities to take part in during the school day as well as plenty of extra help opportunities that occur during XBlock. Take a look at the complete XBlock schedule.

Lego Club is Back 
Lego Club with Mr. Shaw will be held on Wednesdays after school from 3:00-4:00 pm beginning September 25th. 

Lights, Camera, Welcome Back Dance
The first dance of the year for grades 6-8  will be held on Friday, September 20 from 7-9 P.M. Please sign up to help by providing snacks, decorations, or your time. Here is the link!

Tutoring will begin on September 24:
Tutoring will be offered by high school National Honor Students to Preparatory Division students beginning Tuesday, September 24 in Mrs. Duvall’s classroom. Tutoring is offered every Day 1 and Day 5 during XBlock.

Lunch Volunteers Still Needed
Do you have an hour to come in and help with lunches in the Preparatory building? We could use volunteers to assist with the lunch program. If you are available to volunteer, please sign up HERE. It can be once a week, once a month, whatever works! It’s a great chance to get to know other students and join the community.

Uniforms
Remember, students should be in uniform, including the school sweater. If the uniform company has not been able to fill your order, please do not worry. New families are reminded to order field trips and gym uniforms. Some grades will attend field trips in September. Please do not hesitate to contact the school Office Manager, Mrs. Siscoe, at dsiscoe@jpiihyannis.org or the Assistant Head of School, Ms. Daly, at pdaly@jpiihyannis.org with any questions.

Registration for Private Musical Instrument Instruction
Information was sent home regarding private lessons offered during the school day for piano, flute and strings.  Please click here to register your child for lessons.

Important Grade 8 Information

Outdoor Yearbook Portraits on Monday, September 23
Dress clothing is required for the yearbook photos. On this day only, 8th graders do not need to wear their uniform.  In the case of rain, the portrait day will be rescheduled. Please ensure attire is suitable for the weather. All standard school clothing rules apply.

  • Boys: Must wear a tie and dress shirt with dress pants or khakis.
  • Girls: Should be dressed up. Dressy pants or slacks are acceptable.

Photos and ordering information will be available online through a proof system. Special combination packages for 8th graders will include both indoor and outdoor proofs together.

Dr. Mallory Bagwell Returns on Wednesday, September 25
Dr. Mallory Bagwell will be leading project-based learning workshops throughout the day for our grade 8 students. Students may wear their field trip uniform.

Eighth Grade Retreat scheduled for Wednesday, October 16
School vans will depart for Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville at 8:15 AM and return before dismissal. Permission slips have been sent home, please return them if you haven’t already. Students may wear their field trip uniform and should bring a bagged lunch.

Washington, DC Trip will take place May 5-9, 2025

GRADES 9 – 12 INFORMATION

Parents and guardians of students are invited to Mini Class Night on September 26 at 6:45 PM. The evening begins with an assembly in the Auditorium.  There will be a brief presentation from the Head of School, Assistant Head of School and the Advancement team.

NHS Tutoring Offered:
High School NHS Tutoring will begin the week of September 23. Tutoring will be on Day 4 and Day 7 during XBlocks in the ARC.

Freshmen and Sophomore Community Service Opportunity
Mr. Chen will be hosting a community service opportunity on Saturday, September 28 to benefit Tommy’s Place. Sign ups are in the main office. For more details, please see Mr. Chen.

Senior Guidance Session:
On Wednesday, September 18 from 7:00-8:30 Mr.  Tanguay will be presenting the first of the Wednesday Night Guidance Sessions geared toward a review of the college process for parents and students. Subjects covered will include the application process, the financial aid process and the final decision process. This meeting will be held in-person in the ARC.

Lunch Time College Visits:
Monday, September 16 from 11:30-12:30 we will host The Catholic University of America during our lunch hour. Sacred Heart will be here on Tuesday, September 17. Please take a moment to stop by and say hello.

Freshmen Retreat
Freshmen are scheduled for their retreat on Wednesday, September 25 at Camp Greenough in Yarmouth.  Please look for a permission slip coming soon.

High School Uniform Information
The optional quarter-zip pullover with the school logo for grades 9-12 only is not a Tommy Hilfiger item. It may be purchased at the school store or ordered online here.

 

 This is a reminder that the black and white skirts from Donnelly’s are no longer part of the dress code.
