Former Red Sox outfielder Trot Nixon went all the way to a World Series championship wearing a hat caked with dirt and dust.
St. John Paul II first baseman Anthony Oriola had hopes that his dusty and grimy lid would also provide good luck to his Lions baseball team.
“It’s got some character in it,” he said with a smile. “I was doing it before he did. It was a lucky hat for me last year when we won it all, so I didn’t want to change it up. I get grief for it all the time. It’s a combination of dirt, sweat, I’ve probably dropped it a few times.”
