Hyannis, MA (4/27/17) – St. John Paul II High School has hired Matthew J. Marshall as the Lions’ Head Football Coach, effective immediately. Marshall, Athletic Director Mark A. Santos and Head of School Christopher W. Keavy made the announcement at a players meeting on Wednesday.
“Coach Marshall brings a great mix of youthful energy and solid football experience at several different levels.
The search committee was unanimous and enthusiastic in seeing Coach Marshall as the leader of JPII football for many years to come,” said Santos.
Marshall played football at Marshfield High School and Nichols College, where he also coached. He served in several coaching capacities at Scituate High School, with the South Shore Chiefs semi-pro team, and most recently, at Sacred Heart High School.
“I have been coaching football at many different levels for the past ten years. I am proud to be the next Head Football Coach at St. John Paul II High School. There is no doubt that Coaches Muldoon, Delaney, and Harrison formed a great tradition and I am excited to keep this going,” Marshall said.
Marshall succeeds co-head coaches Mike Delaney and David Harrison. The 2016 Lions achieved an 8-4 record and were South Sectional runners-up. Lions football was built under the direction of John Muldoon, during whose six-year tenure, the Lions posted a record of 37-18 and qualified for the MIAA Tournament in 2014 and 2015 and earned Central Catholic League Titles in 2014 and 2015.
“Coach Marshall brings a wide variety of coaching experiences to us and is ready to lead the program in every way. He knows our school mission and will to exemplify Catholic life on and off the field,” Keavy said.
