St. John Paul II High School has named Ted Guazzaloca as the school’s first field hockey coach, effective immediately. Guazzaloca will lead the team in its first-ever inter-scholastic season this fall. The team will be playing a junior varsity schedule this coming year.
“Coach Guazzaloca brings significant coaching experience to JPII. His passion for coaching and teaching will be instrumental in starting the program”, said Athletic Director Rich Fazzi. Guazzaloca has been a teacher and coach in the Barnstable school district for the last 22 years, with fifteen years of field hockey coaching experience in the middle school and high school level.
“I am excited to help create a positive field hockey culture at JPII. Coaching the skills of the game will be the easy part of the job. The challenge in developing a robust, self-sustaining program is to have the student-athletes buy into what can be. Early on, we will strive to build on teamwork, communication, and mutual respect. Winning is great, but the memories that last a lifetime are due to the bonds the girls make with their teammates throughout a season. It is all about the challenges they face along the way, the triumphs they share, and the tough losses they weather together as they grow as a team. What they will remember most are the relationships they formed with their teammates and coaches. Hopefully, they will recall a few memorable victories as well!” Guazzaloca said.
Guazzaloca lives in Brewster and attends Our Lady of the Cape Parish, where he served on the parish council, taught CCD, and served as a lector and a lay minister.
“An experienced coach with such deep roots in the community is great to bring on board in any circumstances. Add to that, Coach Guazzaloca’s deep commitment to the Catholic faith brings our mission to life,” stated Principal, Mona Lisa Valentino.
