New Coach Brings Enthusiasm, Experience to JP2

“I’ve been counting the days for a long time now,” Soares said. “It’s tremendous just to get the guys together, to put some of the names with the faces and to start to envision the team.”

Soares, a three-sport star at Harwich, brings a wealth of baseball experience to the Lions. He captained the Rough Riders to a state baseball championship in 2006, the four-year starter and two-year captain earning Gatorade Massachusetts Player of the Year honors that year, and from there went on to play for Division I University of South Florida and George Mason University in Virginia.

The Detroit Tigers drafted Soares in 2010, and

 

he played minor league baseball for three seasons. He played another three years in independent leagues until 2015, and in February 2016 opened Soares Elite Baseball & Sports Performance in Dennis.
