This Advisory Board helps the school achieve excellence both institutionally and in its program for students. Comprised of community leaders, clergy members, key parent leaders, and alumni, the Advisory Board provides advice and counsel to the Head of School, carries the school’s message to its many publics, and strengthens the school’s external relationships. Ultimate school governance is vested in the Roman Catholic Bishop of Fall River and his designee, the Superintendent of Schools.

Michael Doyle '13
Michael graduated from JPII in 2013 as a member of the third graduating class where he received the "Spirit of Saint John Paul II" award. As a student at JPII he was active in performing arts, Student Council, soccer, and the tennis team. After JPII he attended Assumption College where he graduated with a major in biotechnology and molecular biology. He returned to JPII in 2017 to help create and lead the first year of JPIITV. He is currently a medical student at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine where he is pursuing a residency in emergency medicine.

Elizabeth Dunton P '25, '28, '31
Elizabeth Dunton is the Vice President of Physician Enterprise at Cape Cod Healthcare, where she has been since 2016, holding a variety of roles throughout her tenure. Prior to joining Cape Cod Healthcare, Elizabeth worked as a Nurse Practitioner at Emerald Physicians. She is a graduate of Boston College, holding both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Nursing. In addition to her professional achievements, Elizabeth is deeply committed to her family and community. She is the proud mother of three children, including a St. John Paul II School alum currently attending St. Anselm College, along with two current JPII students. Elizabeth has lived on Cape Cod for 20 years with her husband, and together they continue to love exploring the beauty of our beachside community. Elizabeth also enjoys performing in community theater on Cape Cod, often sharing the stage with her daughter, and is a passionate supporter of local productions.

Larry Furey
Larry Furey brings over 36 years of development knowledge to the St. John Paul II Advisory Board. Larry is skilled at providing strategic direction in all areas of advancement and has a proven record of success in enrollment management, on-site capital campaign management, major gift solicitation, planned giving and endowment programs, annual giving, boards and volunteers, communications, and advancement operations. A resident of Mashpee and a parishioner of Christ the King, Larry has provided comprehensive advancement services to Catholic schools, dioceses, and religious organizations throughout the United States.

Steve Hamel is currently our Advisory Board Chairperson. Mr. Hamel is a graduate of Marian High School, Phillips Exeter Academy, PG and Northeastern University, B.S. After an early career in commercial banking, he has been involved in marine sales management. He is also a member of the school’s Advancement Committee.

Kathy Griffin-Mayo, P '23, '27
Kathy Griffin-Mayo has been a full-time resident living on Cape Cod for over 40 years. Born and raised in Fall River, MA, her family was very involved with the Fall River Diocese and Catholic Education. Kathy attended Northeastern University, and her background is in hospitality, working at New Seabury Resort & Country Club in many capacities, including General Manager from 1987-2001. In 2001, she became the General Manager at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston MA. In 2005 she left the hospitality industry to become a full-time mother to her two sons Quinn and Griffin, Kathy has been very involved throughout her children’s education journey, serving on the St. Pius X School’s Advisory Board as well as chairing their annual fundraising campaigns. Her recent contribution to St. John Paul II School has been serving on the Advisory Board and Advancement Committee for the past three years. Kathy resides in New Seabury with her husband and two children.

James McGrail, P '24, '27, '31
Jay McGrail is the proud father of three daughters as well as a graduate of Barnstable High School and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was born and raised on Cape Cod and spends time investing in his community. Currently, Mr. McGrail serves as the Town Manager of Middleborough. He was also an elected member of the Sandwich School Committee and served as chair.

John Milligan '13

John Milligan, a graduate of the Class of 2013, played a pivotal role as a member of JPII’s inaugural football team. He continued his education at Holy Cross University, where he was actively involved in the Student Senate and earned his degree in 2017. John has since established a career in the political sector.

Joseph O'Keefe, P '23, '24
Joe O’Keefe was raised in Connecticut and attended St. Theresa Elementary School, St. Joseph High School and Sacred Heart University. Raised by ardent supporters of Catholic education, Joe continues this legacy as the President of the O’Keefe Family Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding Catholic school scholarships and initiatives. Joe has also volunteered on the Fall River Diocesan Foundation Development Committee and the Diocesan Governance Committee. He is currently a member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council led by Bishop Edgar da Cunha. Joe graduated from Colorado State University with a BS in Landscape Architecture and worked as a consultant developing Geographic Information Systems for land use decision making. As an Associate Executive Director for the South Shore YMCA, an organization with a $38 million budget, his responsibilities included finance, program development, staff supervision and development, strategic planning, fundraising, property management, and Master Plan development and execution. Currently, Joe lives on Cape Cod with his wife Wendy and his children Jack (‘23) and Lulu (‘24). He is principal of O’Keefe Property Services, a property management company.

Kristin O'Malley P'28, '30
Kristin O'Malley holds a BA from Middlebury College, an MBA in Nonprofit Management from Suffolk University, and a certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership through the Institute for Nonprofit Practice at Tufts University’s Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life. Kristin was recognized as one of the region’s “40 Under 40” leaders by Cape & Plymouth Business Magazine, and in 2022, she was chosen as one of 19 women nationally to be recognized on Nonprofit HR’s “Social Impact Women to Watch” list. Kristin resides in West Barnstable with her husband and has two children currently attending St. John Paul II School.
