(Hyannis- 6/20/24) St. John Paul II School is excited to announce the appointment of Chris Fredo as the hockey program’s next head coach. Fredo brings a high level of experience and team success coaching in the Barnstable Youth Hockey Association for the past eighteen years.
Chris Fredo, a former hockey player at Lunenberg High School, demonstrated his leadership skills by being named a captain in his senior year. He continued his hockey journey at Hebron Academy in Maine and even played baseball at the NCAA Div. II level when he joined St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT.
Fredo’s hockey coaching career began in 2004, coaching at various youth organizations within the town of Barnstable, until finding a home with the Barnstable Youth Hockey Association in 2007. Since joining the BYHA, Fredo has coached teams at all levels, honing in on high school age groups for nearly ten years, and has been part of numerous championship-winning teams.
Fredo has coached his teams into the state championship on three separate occasions, including the 2019-2020 season, where the 18u National Bound team won the Mass Hockey Tier 2 National Bound Championship. In addition, Fredo’s teams have won several South Shore Conference, Premier Hockey League of New England, and tournament championships.
St. John Paul II School Athletic Director Michael Young said, “Bringing in Coach Fredo as our head coach at JPII is a tremendous step in the right direction for our team and an exciting day for our hockey program. Chris comes highly regarded with a strong reputation across Cape Cod and is someone I have full confidence in leading our student-athletes to become better young men and hockey players. I couldn’t be more excited to see what the future holds for JPII hockey.”
