O Come, O Come, Emmanuel!

adventcandlesAdvent is a special time in the liturgical year and the life of the school. In Advent, we wait. But the Church teaches us that waiting is not passive, but rather, an active engagement of patience and anticipation.

Hilary of Poitiers, a fourth-century Church Father, tells us that “the Lord is good to those who hope in him, to the soul that seeks him. It is good to wait in silence for God’s salvation.” And so we wait.

Along these lines, students and families are invited to participate in events that heighten our anticipation of the miracle of Incarnation. Please consider attending one or all of the following:

  • Our entire school, grades 5-12, will celebrate Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary on Tuesday, December 8, at 10 A.M. Our celebrant will be Fall River Bishop Edgar M. Da Cunha. This event is preceded by a special Grandparents Day reception at 9 A.M. Please join us!
  • The Concert for Advent and Christmas, presented by our Performing Arts students, goes off at 7 P.M., on Friday, December 9. The concert is a warm, much-anticipated community event that I encourage you to attend.
  • Students and staff will be invited to receive the sacrament of reconciliation at an all-school penance service on December 19.
  • Our fourth annual Social Justice Advent Fair, featuring student projects, will be held on December 21, from 1:30 P.M. – 2:30 P.M. The fair takes place in Monsignor Thomson Hall at the SFXP building. Parents of seniors are welcome to attend.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel!
