Meet JPII’s New Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach: John Kent

St. John Paul II School Announces John Kent as New Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach

(Hyannis- 1/23/25) St. John Paul II School is excited to announce the appointment of John Kent as the men’s lacrosse program’s next head coach. Coach Kent brings years of experience to the position and has a proven track record of developing talent and building winning programs.

Previously, Coach Kent was the Head Varsity Coach of the Monomoy Sharks from 2018-2024, where he compiled a 62-26 overall record and helped the team reach the tournament in six consecutive seasons. In 2024, the team boasted a 15-3 overall record, including 10-0 in the Cape & Islands, with a roster where only 15% of student-athletes had played formal lacrosse before entering high school. While at Monomoy, Coach Kent also created a lacrosse club program at the middle school level to introduce students to the game.

Before arriving at Monomoy, Coach Kent was heavily involved in lacrosse in Foxborough, where he served as a Varsity Assistant Coach and JV Head Coach. In addition, Coach Kent was the Treasurer of Foxborough Youth Lacrosse from 2003-2016, while also coaching at FYL and serving on their board.

In the years before coaching, Kent was a student at Babson College, where he played lacrosse and earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as a finance major.

St. John Paul II School Athletic Director, Michael Young, said “bringing in Coach Kent to coach our lacrosse team is a very exciting step for the future of our program. Throughout the hiring process, it has been clear Coach knows not only how to teach the game, but the deep care he possesses for the student-athletes he coaches, and the impact he leaves them with long after they are done playing for him. Coach’s experience in the Cape & Islands and with this level of lacrosse is something I believe will help make a smooth transition, and I could not be more excited to see the team competing this year.”

“I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead and grow the St. John Paul II men’s lacrosse program and build upon the JPII tradition of excellence. I have a passion for coaching lacrosse and developing student-athletes into outstanding young men as well as strong lacrosse players. What most attracted me to St. John Paul II School is their goal to ‘challenge our student-athletes to be the very best they can be,’ which aligns with my coaching philosophy. I am excited to be leading the JPII men’s lacrosse program and coaching players to achieve their full potential.” John Kent, St. John Paul II Head Coach.
