There’s an old sporting adage that notes, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight… it’s the size of the fight in the dog.”
It’s a saying that St. John Paul II hockey player Billy Dwyer was once told, and it follows him out onto the ice each time he laces up his skates and grabs his stick.
“One of my lacrosse coaches said it to me and it’s always stuck with me,” he said of the quote.
“Since I was young there have always been people who are bigger than me,” the 5-9, 140-pound Lions senior added. “I just try to make up for it by working hard.”
As a starting first-line defenseman for the St. John Paul hockey squad, his efforts have not gone unnoticed by coach Chuck Jancaterino.
“He’s a quiet leader and he’s steady,” said Jancaterino. “He’ll do his job and be a leader by example.”
