COVID Response Plan 2021-2022

School Program

  • All students will be in classrooms without the hindrance of remote learning, overflow rooms, or the like.
  • Co-curricular activities, campus ministry, athletics, performing arts, and leadership organizations will operate fully.
  • The synchronous remote learning option offered last year is no longer available. In cases when students are not in school, teachers will provide work electronically and offer check-in opportunities.

Mask Requirement

  • Indoor masking is required for all students and staff members, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, until February 28, 2022 This decision was made in keeping with CDC, DESE/DPH, and Diocese of Fall River Catholic Schools Office policy.
  • Masks are not required while outside.
  • Mask breaks will be taken when needed.
  • Masks are required on all bus transportation, per federal mandate.
  • Masking for athletics will follow MIAA protocols. Coaches, student-athletes, and spectators must be masked while indoors.

Physical Distancing

  • Classrooms will be structured to achieve three feet of distance to avoid close contact concerns.
  • Currently, there are no gathering limitations for events.  
  • We will continue to utilize virtual meetings and gatherings as appropriate.

Health and Safety Protocols

  • Protocols for individual COVID scenarios are addressed here: DESE/DPH Guidelines and Flow chart.
  • All students and staff are required to monitor their symptoms daily.
  • All COVID-vaccinated students and staff are requested to submit a copy of their vaccination record to the Health Office. Additional information here.
    • Please send a copy of the vaccination record to Mrs. Linnell (llinnell@JPIIHyannis.org for Preparatory Division students) or Mrs. Bresnahan (mbresnahan@JPIIHyannis.org for High School Division students). 
    • You are not required to provide proof of vaccination. Those who do not have a vaccination record on file in the Health Office will be categorized as unvaccinated.
  • Note that “close contacts” are defined differently in the new 2021-22 guidance.
    “The following close contacts are exempt from testing and quarantine response protocols:

      • Asymptomatic, fully vaccinated close contacts: Individuals who are asymptomatic and fully vaccinated are exempt from testing and quarantine response protocols.

      • Classroom close contacts: An individual who is exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual in the classroom while both individuals were masked, so long as the individuals were spaced at least 3 feet apart, is exempt from testing and quarantine response protocols.

      • Bus close contacts: Individuals on buses must be masked according to federal requirements. As such, individuals who are masked on buses when windows are open are exempt from testing and quarantine response protocols.

      • Close contacts who have had COVID-19 within the past 90 days: An individual who has been previously diagnosed with COVID-19 and then becomes a close contact of someone with COVID-19 is exempt from testing and quarantine response protocols if:
        The exposure occurred within 90 days of the onset of their own illness AND
        The exposed individual is recovered and remains without COVID-19 symptoms.”

COVID-19 Testing

  • JPII will participate in the state’s COVID-19 testing program in order to avoid lengthy quarantines for students and staff who are determined to be close contacts.
  • “Test and Stay” will be provided for close contacts to allow our students and staff to be in school in-person every day.
  • Parents must provide consent to utilize the testing program. Provide your consent online here.

Food Service

  • Physical distancing is not required for mealtimes, even with masks removed. The school will distance students as feasible during lunch. 
  • There will not be plexiglass barriers at lunchtime. 
  • Students must remain masked at all times in the cafeteria except when eating.

Other

  • The school made additional improvements in its ventilation systems this summer.
  • Hand sanitizer will continue to be available throughout the building.
