“He’s raised his GPA; he’s done all the right things,” said Santos. “We’ve had a lot of kids who’ve come through and developed themselves into fine young men and he’s probably been the one who’s transformed himself the most.”
And while baseball is a big part of Souza’s life, he doesn’t discount the importance of his effort in the classroom and what his present school has done for him.
“I really like the small classrooms here. The teachers get to know you personally, one-on-one,” he said. “Also the religious part – I never really had that in the public schools and that is also very important to me. We’re all connected here; it’s like a family.”
