Someday next spring when the thermometer is dipping down near freezing, Mark Santos will gaze out the window and have a deep longing to be back out on the baseball diamond.
“I loved practicing in 30-degree weather, because I knew nobody else was,” he said. “Next thing you know you’re into it for 30 minutes and nobody knows it’s cold out. Then we’d get in the coach’s room afterward and we’d be like, ‘We’re nuts!’”
The drive and pump of adrenaline was what spurred Santos on and made him one of the most successful baseball coaches in the history of the sport on Cape Cod.
Santos decided to step down this past October from the position he had held since 2010.
